How to Check If a Singapore Company Is Registered and Live

Before you sign a contract, accept an invoice, or take a job offer from a Singapore company, it's worth confirming two separate things: that the company is genuinely registered with ACRA, and that its current status is live rather than struck off, dissolved, or wound up.

What "live" actually means

ACRA records an entity status for every company on its register. The two live statuses are "Live Company" and "Live" — both mean the company currently exists as a registered legal entity and hasn't been struck off, dissolved, wound up, amalgamated into another entity, or converted to a different structure. This site only ever publishes a page for a company in one of these two statuses — a company that ACRA no longer shows as live never gets a page, a search result, or a row on a category page here, even if it once did.

That last point matters if you're checking an old document: a company that has since been struck off will simply disappear from this site's search results the next time our monthly refresh runs, rather than being shown as "not live" somewhere.

How to check on this site

Search by the company's name or UEN using the box at the top of any page. If it has a page, the badge next to its name shows "Active" for a live company. Because this site only publishes live companies in the first place, the badge is really confirming that the company both exists in ACRA's register and was live as of the "data as of" date shown further down the page — check that date, since it reflects when we last downloaded ACRA's data, not the current moment.

How to check directly with ACRA

For a status that's current to the minute, or for a company that doesn't have a page on this site — a sole proprietorship, a partnership, or a company not yet in the current publication wave — use ACRA's own Bizfile service. A basic business profile, including current status, can be purchased there directly by UEN or company name. This is the authoritative source; if this site and Bizfile ever disagree, Bizfile is correct and our page is simply due for its next refresh.

What "live" doesn't tell you

A live status confirms the company legally exists — nothing more. It does not mean the company is solvent, that it has no outstanding legal claims against it, that its filings are up to date, or that it's a good business partner. A company can be live and still be well behind on its annual return — seeannual return and financial statement deadlines for what those dates mean and how to read them on a company's page. Whether a company is a going concern, and whether it's worth doing business with, are separate questions this site — or ACRA's own register — cannot answer on their own; that's a matter for your own due diligence, references and, where appropriate, a credit check from a licensed provider.
