How GeBIZ Government Tenders Work

GeBIZ is Singapore's government e-procurement portal — the system ministries and statutory boards use to publish tenders and award contracts. When a company on this site has won a government tender, it's because its name matched a GeBIZ award record.

What GeBIZ is

GeBIZ, short for Government Electronic Business, is operated for the Ministry of Finance by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech). Government procurement entities — ministries, statutory boards and other public-sector agencies — publish their tender opportunities there, and suppliers who want to bid for public-sector work register on the platform to respond.

How a tender becomes an award

A government procurement entity opens a tender or quotation on GeBIZ describing what it needs, and registered suppliers submit bids before the closing date. The agency evaluates bids against its stated criteria — price alone isn't always the deciding factor for public tenders — and awards the contract to a winning supplier. The award, once made, is published as a public record: the agency, a description of what was procured, the award date, the supplier's name and the awarded amount. That published award record is exactly what feeds the GeBIZ dataset this site uses.

How this site matches an award to a company

GeBIZ's own published data records the winning supplier by name, not by UEN, so we match it to a company by normalising both names — uppercasing, stripping punctuation, and standardising common suffixes like "Pte. Ltd." to "Pte Ltd" — and only counting it as a match when exactly one live, eligible company has that normalised name. If two different companies would normalise to the same name, we don't guess which one actually won the award, so neither gets it. This means the tender totals shown on a company's page are a lower bound on what it may have actually won, not a guaranteed complete record — seedata sources & methodology for the exact matching rule.

Where to see it on this site

A company that has one or more matched GeBIZ awards shows a "Government tenders awarded" table on its own page, and the KPI row at the top totals the awarded amount. You can also browse in the other direction — from an awarding agency to the companies it has awarded contracts to — from any agency name linked on a company's page, which leads to that agency's own tender-award listing.

What a GeBIZ award does and doesn't tell you

A matched award confirms a company has previously won at least one public-sector contract — a reasonable signal of its ability to deliver against a formal specification and pass a government agency's evaluation. It does not mean the company is currently registered as a GeBIZ supplier, still eligible to bid, or under any current contract, since GeBIZ's award data is historical rather than a live registration status.
